Organisation Background
As an organization, we are mindful of the challenges faced by young girls and women, which include unmet needs for sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), teenage pregnancies and poor menstrual hygiene, other health rights and education, unemployment, climate change, low income, and limited economic empowerment. AWU sought to redress these challenges by supporting the well-being of the poor and marginalized young girls and women.
We work with different women's groups to empower them, strengthen their capacities, and link them to different opportunities. AWU also empowers young girls and women using the rights-based and gender-responsive approach to hold duty bearers accountable for the delivery of equitable, quality, and sustainable services. AWU uses the social development approach to influence pro-development programs and policies and build capacities of young girls and women in the communities for positive transformation of these vulnerable communities in Uganda. This model is being used as a sustainability strategy to better the socio-economic well-being of poor and marginalized young girls and women in Uganda.
